OVERWORKED
===========
…do you ever feel like this person?
For a couple years I’ve been blaming it on lack of sleep,
not enough sunshine, too much pressure from my job, earwax
buildup, poor blood or anything else I could think of.
But now I found out the real reason:
I’m tired because I’m overworked . . . Here’s why:
The population of this country is 273 million.
140 million are retired.
That leaves 133 million to do the work.
There are 85 million in school,
which leaves 48 million to do the work.
Of this there are 29 million employed by the federal government,
leaving 19 million to do the work.
2.8 million are in the armed forces.
Which leaves 16.2 million to do the work.
Take from the total the 14,800,000 people who work for state and
city governments.
And that leaves 1.4 million to do the work.
At any given time there are 188,000 people in hospitals,
leaving 1,212,000 to do the work.
Now, there are 1,211,998 people in prisons.
That leaves just two people to do the work.
You and I.
And there you are sitting at your computer reading this
MountainWings issue.
Leaving me to do all the work.
What Would You Do?

What Would You Do?
===================
Imagine this…
You are driving along in your car on a wild, stormy night. It’s
raining heavily when suddenly you pass by a bus stop, and you
see three people waiting for a bus:
1. An old lady who looks as if she is about to die.
2. An old friend who once saved your life.
3. The perfect partner you have been dreaming about.
Which one would you choose to offer a ride to, knowing very well
that there could only be one passenger in your car?
Think before you continue reading…
This is a moral/ethical dilemma that was once actually used as
part of a job application.
You could pick up the old lady because she is going to die, and
thus you should save her first;
or you could take the old friend because he once saved your
life, and this would be the perfect chance to pay him back.
However, you may never be able to find your perfect mate again.
The candidate who was hired (out of 200 applicants) had no
trouble coming up with his answer. Guess what his answer was?
He simply answered: “I would give the car keys to my old friend
and let him take the lady to the hospital. I would stay behind
and wait for the bus with the partner of my dreams.”
Sometimes, we gain more if we are able to give up our stubborn
thought limitations. Never forget to “Think Outside of the Box.”

A Banana A Day

A Banana A Day
===============
After reading THIS, you’ll NEVER look at a banana in the same
way again!
Bananas contain three natural sugars: sucrose, fructose and
glucose combined with fiber. A banana gives an instant,
sustained and substantial boost of energy. Research has proven
that just two bananas provide enough energy for a strenuous 90-
minute workout. No wonder the banana is the number one fruit
with the world’s leading athletes. But energy isn’t the only
way a banana can help us keep fit. It can also help overcome or
prevent a substantial number of illnesses and conditions, making
it a must to add to our daily diet.
Depression:
According to a recent survey undertaken by MIND, amongst people
suffering from depression, many felt much better after eating a
banana. This is because bananas contain tryptophan, a type of
protein that the body converts into serotonin, which is known to
make you relax, improve your mood and generally make you feel
happier.
PMS:
Eat a banana. The vitamin B6 it contains regulates blood
glucose levels, which can affect your mood.
Anemia:
High in iron, bananas can stimulate the production of hemoglobin
in the blood and so helps in cases of anemia.
Blood Pressure:
This unique tropical fruit is extremely high in potassium yet
low in salt, making it the perfect way to beat blood pressure.
So much so, the US Food and Drug Administration has just allowed
the banana industry to make official claims for the fruit’s
ability to reduce the risk of high blood pressure and stroke.
Brain Power:
200 students at a Twickenham (Middlesex) school were helped
through their exams this year by eating bananas at breakfast,
break and lunch in a bid to boost their brain power. Research
has shown that the potassium-packed fruit can assist learning by
making pupils more alert.
Constipation:
High in fiber, including bananas in the diet can help restore
normal bowel action, helping to overcome the problem without
resorting to laxatives.
Hangovers:
One of the quickest ways of curing a hangover is to make a
banana milkshake, sweetened with honey. The banana calms the
stomach; and with the help of the honey, builds up depleted
blood sugar levels, while the milk soothes and re-hydrates your
system.
Heartburn:
Bananas have a natural antacid effect in the body so if you
suffer from heartburn, try eating a banana for soothing relief.
Morning Sickness:
Snacking on bananas between meals helps to keep blood sugar
levels up and avoid morning sickness.
Mosquito bites:
Before reaching for the insect bite cream, try rubbing the
affected area with the inside of a banana skin. Many people
find it amazingly successful at reducing swelling and
irritation.
Nerves:
Bananas are high in B vitamins that help calm the nervous
system.
Overweight and at work?
Studies at the Institute of Psychology in Austria found pressure
at work leads to gorging on comfort food like chocolate and
chips. Looking at 5,000 hospital patients, researchers found
that the most obese were more likely to be in high-pressure jobs.
The report concluded that to avoid panic-induced food cravings,
we need to control our blood sugar levels by snacking on high
carbohydrate foods every two hours to keep levels steady.
Ulcers:
The banana is used as the dietary food against intestinal
disorders because of its soft texture and smoothness. It is the
only raw fruit that can be eaten without distress in over-
chronicler cases. It also neutralizes over-acidity and reduces
irritation by coating the lining of the stomach.
Temperature control:
Many other cultures see bananas as a “cooling” fruit that can
lower both the physical and emotional temperature of expectant
mothers. In Thailand, for example, pregnant women eat bananas
to ensure their baby is born with a cool temperature.
Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD):
Bananas can help SAD sufferers because they contain the natural
mood enhancer tryptophan.
Smoking:
Bananas can also help people trying to give up smoking. The B6
and B12 they contain, as well as the potassium and magnesium
found in them, help the body recover from the effects of
nicotine withdrawal.
Stress:
Potassium is a vital mineral, which helps normalize the
heartbeat, sends oxygen to the brain and regulates your body’s
water balance. When we are stressed our metabolic rate rises,
thereby reducing our potassium levels. These can be rebalanced
with the help of a high-potassium banana snack.
Strokes:
According to research in “The New England Journal of Medicine,”
eating bananas as part of a regular diet can cut the risk of
death by strokes by as much as 40%!
So, a banana really is a natural remedy for many ills. When you
compare it to an apple, it has four times the protein, twice the
carbohydrates, three times the phosphorus, five times the
vitamin A and iron, and twice the other vitamins and minerals.
It is also rich in potassium and is one of the best value foods
around. So maybe its time to change that well-known phrase so
that we say, “A banana a day keeps the doctor away!”
PASS IT ON TO YOUR FRIENDS
from The Mountain:
Around half of all people with an allergy to latex have
allergic reactions when eating particular foods, including
avocado, banana, chestnut, kiwi fruit, passion fruit, plum,
strawberry and tomato. This is because some of the proteins in
latex that cause latex allergy are also present in these fruits.
Many of the claims made in this popular email are unproven.
But what if just half of them are true? At least with a banana
you don’t have a full page of contraindications that you do with
most drugs and they are still relatively cheap.
Also, you should eat a variety of fruits and vegetables;
a minimum of five different colors each day. The saying should
be, “an apple, banana, pear, peach and a bunch of grapes a day
keeps the doctor away.”

The Attitude of Three Hairs
===========================
There was once a woman who woke up one morning, looked in the
mirror and noticed she had only three hairs on her head.
“Well,” she said, “I think I’ll braid my hair today,” so she did
and she had a wonderful day.
The next day she woke up, looked in the mirror and saw she had
only two hairs on her head.
“HMM,” she said, “I think I’ll part my hair down the middle
today,” and she did and she had a grand day.
The next morning she woke up, looked in the mirror and saw she
had only one hair left on her head.
“Well,” she said, “Today I’m going to wear my hair in a pony
tail.” So she did and it was a fun, fun day.
The next day she woke up, looked in the mirror and noticed that
there wasn’t a single hair on her head.
“YEAH!” she exclaimed, “I don’t have to fix my hair today!”
Remember you may not be able to control what someone says or
does or some of the situations that life throws you, but you can
sure control the way you react.

Pregnancy Pain
===============
A woman goes to her doctor who verifies that she is pregnant.
This is her first pregnancy. The doctor asks her if she has any
questions. She replies, “Well, I’m a little worried about the
pain. How much will childbirth hurt?”
The doctor answered, “Well, that varies from woman to woman and
pregnancy to pregnancy and besides, it’s difficult to describe
pain.”
“I know, but can’t you give me some idea?” she asks.
“Grab your upper lip and pull it out a little…”
“Like this?”
“A little more…”
“Like this?”
“No. A little more…”
“Like this?”
“Yes. Does that hurt?”
“A little bit.”
“Now stretch it over your head!”
Maybe you have other plans. . .

================================
I woke up early today, excited over all
I get to do before the clock strikes midnight.
I have responsibilities to fulfill today.
I am important.
My job is to choose what kind of day I am going to have.
Today I can complain because the weather is rainy, OR…
I can be thankful that the grass is getting watered for free.
Today I can feel sad that I don’t have more money, OR…
I can be glad that my finances encourage me to plan
my purchases wisely and guide me away from waste.
Today I can grumble about my health, OR…
I can rejoice that I am alive.
Today I can lament over all that my parents didn’t give me
when I was growing up, OR…
I can feel grateful that they allowed me to be born.
Today I can cry because roses have thorns, OR…
I can celebrate that thorns have roses.
Today I can mourn my lack of friends, OR…
I can excitedly embark upon a quest to discover new
relationships.
Today I can whine because I have to go to work, OR…
I can shout for joy because I have a job to go to.
Today I can complain because I have to go to school, OR…
Eagerly open my mind and fill it with new tidbits of knowledge.
Today I can murmur dejectedly because I have to do housework,
OR…
I can feel honored because the Lord has provided shelter
for my mind, body, and soul.
Today stretches ahead of me, waiting to be shaped.
And here I am, the sculptor who gets to do the shaping.
What today will be like is up to me.
I get to choose what kind of day I will have!
Have a GREAT DAY my friend
OR…
maybe you have other plans.

I GOT A NEW BOSS!!!!
I went to work yesterday after my almost ten days vacation.
I found out I GOT A NEW BOSS!!!!
I wonder if there would be changes.
I was told there would be none.
I wonder if I am still bound by the contract I signed.
I signed my contract because I like my OLD BOSSES.
I also like what came with the contract.
I wonder if I could get a FAN and CURTAINS…

Unique Breakfast
=================
A man observed a sign in the window of a restaurant that read
“Unique Breakfast” so he walked in and sat down.
The waitress brought him his coffee and asked him what he
wanted.
“What’s your Unique Breakfast?” he asked inquisitively.
“Baked tongue of chicken!” she proudly replied.
“Baked tongue of chicken?… baked tongue of chicken!
Do you have any idea how disgusting that is?
I would never even consider eating anything that came out of a
chicken’s mouth!” he fumed.
Undaunted, the waitress asked, “What would you like then?”
“Just bring me some scrambled eggs,” the man replied.

The Plug
==========
My better half and I were sitting in the living room and I said
to her,
“Just so you know, I never want to live in a vegetative state,
dependent on some machine and fluids from a bottle.
If that ever happens, just pull the plug.”
So, she got up, unplugged the TV and threw out all my beer.

When You Thought I Wasn’t Looking
==================================
When you thought I wasn’t looking,
I saw you hang my first painting on the fridge,
and I immediately wanted to paint another one!
When you thought I wasn’t looking,
I saw you feed a stray cat and I learned that it was good to be
kind to animals!
When you thought I wasn’t looking,
I saw you make my favorite cake for me, and I learned that the
little things can be the special things in life!
When you thought I wasn’t looking,
I heard you say a prayer, and I knew there was a GOD I could
always talk to and I learned to trust in GOD
When you thought I wasn’t looking,
I saw you make a meal and take it to a friend who was sick,
and I learned that we all have to help take care of each other
When you thought I wasn’t looking,
I saw you give of your time and money to help people who had
nothing, and I learned that those who had something should give
to those who don’t!
When you thought I wasn’t looking,
I saw you take care of our house and everyone in it,
and I learned we have to take care of what we are given!
When you thought I wasn’t looking,
I saw how you handle your responsibilities even though you
didn’t feel good, and I learned that I would have to be
responsible when I grew up!
When you thought I wasn’t looking,
I saw tears come from your eyes, and I learned that sometimes
things hurt, and it’s ok to cry!
When you thought I wasn’t looking,
I saw that you cared, and I wanted to be everything that I could
be!
When you thought I wasn’t looking,
I learned most of life’s lessons that I needed to know to be a
good and protective person when I grew up!
When you thought I wasn’t looking,
I looked at you and wanted to say, “Thanks for all the things I
saw when you thought I wasn’t looking!”
